English ( language ) ,
according to cognitive psychology , is a communication system that includes the
thoughts sent ( transmitted ) through the medium of sound ( as in a
conversation ) or symbols ( as in written words or physical cues ) . Language
is also an important element in most human activities , including communication
, thinking , sensing , and representation of information , high -level
cognition , and neurology .
Early neurological studies
conducted Broca's and Wernicke discovered the existence of processing centers
in the cortex , mainly centered in the left cerebral hemisphere , which is
involved in language production and comprehension conversation .
As discussed on Linguistic
Hierarchy . Linguistics ( linguistics ) is the study of language and focuses on
the description of the sounds , meanings , and grammar bahaasa in conversation
. Psychologists generally learn how humans use language . Science that combines
both approaches ( ie, psychology and linguistics ) is called psycholinguistics
( psycholinguistics ) . Psycholinguistics combining psychology and linguistic
approach so we will start this chapter with a brief discussion of linguistics .
• phoneme ( phoneme ) : the
basic unit of spoken language that is currently used as a single unit , has no
meaning at all .
• morpheme ( morpheme ) : the
smallest units that have meaning , can be words or parts of words such as prefix
( prefix ) , suffix ( suffix ) , or a combination of the prefix and suffix .
• Morphology ( morphology ) :
the study of the structure of words .
• Syntax ( syntax ) : the
regulations that control the combination of words in phrases and sentences .
As we know , that the language
is a necessity and our every day habits . Because in general we will interact
with other people . Well .. what if a baby who can not talk and the person who
has tunawicara or what we call ' dumb ' . How do they express their intent to
interact ? ?
From that question, it appears
that the answer to infants who have not spoken it has its own way of
interacting is through their body movements or what we call language cues ,
such as when the baby is crying means he is hungry or thirsty , or he wants to
urinate or defecate . And of the type that cries will sound different depending
on the specific purpose it is usually also referred to as the mother tongue .
As well as the baby put his hand under chin wagged a finger to indicate something
that is ' dirty ' . Currently has also appeared on the methods of teaching ASL
babies who have not been able to speak . As for the speech impaired , she would
use sign language as well by moving their hands or limbs with the intent and
purpose he wanted . Isyaratpun language learned by now not only speech impaired
people , but also normal people too . That meant that we as normal people can
better understand and help their fellow human beings .
So , it can be said that the
language not only can we achieve by talking alone , but we can also show and
express the movement of our limbs , which not everyone can understand , but
should be able to understand . Because not all of which we think that we can
directly translated or we say , because sometimes it is hard to say something
and mean latent within the individual themselves but will not be denied by
their body language and gestures . Because the form of body language ( body
language ) that naturally . (Solso, 2007)
