Do you often sleep during the day? If yes, should you need to be vigilant given the risk of diabetes haunt.
A study says, often napping approximately 50 percent more likely to have type 2 diabetes than those who do not. In the British study looked at almost 20,000 men and women in China, where the siesta is common and usually done on a regular basis every day. This study shows that naps can interfere with certain metabolic system that can affect insulin resistance and blood glucose levels.
However, the study's authors, G. Neil Thomas, Ph.D., the researchers said the study's findings should be treated with caution. This is because their research showed that napping is not the only cause of diabetes.
"In fact, the relationship could be otherwise. Persons with diabetes are more likely to fall asleep during the day because of the increased risk of obstructive sleep apnea, which can cause you are tired," said Sheri Colberg-Ochs, Ph.D., author of The Diabetes Breakthrough, cited Menshealth.
He added, you can nap when sleepy, usually because they feel tired, lack of sleep at night or vigorous exercise. According to him, lack of sleep can be dangerous because it causes a rise in cortisol that increase insulin resistance.
"Try to keep the naps for 20 to 30 minutes, then you will gain health benefits after sleep, and the best way to prevent diabetes is to exercise at least 150 minutes per week," he added. (Ind)
